Meet the Band

Well this is awkward, writing about myself.
“Hi I’m Travis and I have a music problem”.
For as long as I can remember I wanted to be a part of something bigger or that brings people joy and it’s safe to say I’ve found both of those with The Housewives Of Saint John.
I grew up out in a little high desert town in Oregon called Lakeview and have wintered in Saint John for the last 4 years. Music was my whole world and inspiration to travel away from that little cowboy oasis. Between MTV and CMT I had all I needed, rock n roll and country music… my two favorite things. I worshiped The Bellamy Brothers, The Beatles, Guns n Roses. Later on I evolved to a different group of heroes as well. Merle Haggard, The Rolling Stones, Willie Nelson and The Grateful Dead. If I wasn’t playing music, I was at a show. My parents supported me all along the way and encouraged me to push onward and do what I love, but I found out quickly that I couldn’t just make a living off of smoking weed and following Bobby Weir and Phil Lesh around the country. I needed a “day job,” so we started a rock n roll band. I figured if I wrote a few songs and people like them and feel good, then I’m doing my part. If I could spit a few lyrics and play a decent rhythm guitar I’m happy. Bob Dylan & Keith Richards, that’s how I know there isn’t just one god. If you know what I mean.
There isn’t one genre I want to be categorized in, I truly believe a good song is a good song. Whether it be Mamma Tried or Pink Pony Club. A banger is a banger. I’ve always admired The Eagles because they mixed country & rock n roll and wrote some killer songs.
My goal with this band or any music I play is just that. To write songs and play songs that people can drift off into story-land, or feel-good land and forget about the other things in life. Disconnecting and dreaming.
The special thing to me about The Housewives Of Saint John is that we are four strong-headed individuals who have our own projects and separate lives. We do this for the same reasons people come to watch us. The beauty of the mayhem, debauchery and endless fun. We thrive off the night and the creatures that get the true romantic notion of vagabonds and misfits. You put air in our lungs and the wind in our sails.
Thank you

I’m Jalil and I play bass in The Housewives. I’ve lived on St. John for almost a dozen years. I moved down with a band alongside Aaron. We went to the same high school in Ohio together. (at different times) He joined a band I was in a little bit before we moved down. I played around regionally in a couple of punk bands and eventually got in a bar band or two and played a few genres. When we moved to Saint John our band was called “Brother Nature”. Eventually Aaron and I joined “Mother Goat” and since then we’ve played in several bands together and separately. I currently am in “The Housewives of Saint John”, “Mother Goat”, “Moss Henry and the Nasty Girls” and others like “Darin Keech and Friends” I also do hired gun gigs for artists who travel down from off island, such as Hayley Jane, Ryan Balthrop, Joel Cummins, and Al Schnier and others often with other members of The Housewives. I also do session work at Coral Star studios with Allen Clapp.
I grew up listening to my mom’s old records: Peter, Paul, and Mary; The Beatles; and random late 60s thru 80’s stuff. I got hooked on heavy metal at a young age with bands like Testament, Slayer, Metallica, and Black Sabbath. I listened to lots of music, going from grunge to pop and RnB to punk to rap and basically anything. My favorite music to listen to is thrash, sludge, ratchet hip hop, outlaw and trucker country, boom-bap, and psychedelic rock but I listen to just about everything.
Musicians that I’m inspired by on my bass include Geezer Butler, Mustang McGee, Kevin Shields, Thundercat, Mohini Dey, Aston Barrett, Laura Lee and Robert DeLeo.
Currently musically I listen to Geordie Greep, Pretty Lights, The Nude Party, Post Animal, Doechii, Young Dolph, Travo, Daniel Donato’s Cosmic Country, and Descartes En Kant.
I love going to and playing festivals and discovering new bands. I love working in the studio, playing live, designing, and making things. My musical goals include continuing to do these things I love, including recording my own albums, making and designing clothing, and hanging out with my girlfriend Angela and my cats Sonny and Cleo.
See you at the show!

Impervious to public praise or disdain, Taylor only speaks in the third person. He eats crickets and mugwort in smoothie form before dawn and absinthe rinsed oranges dipped in hot chocolate at night. He came to St John in a dream and woke up on the beach. He leaves religiously but returns every time he goes to sleep. Books, ballerinas, and burlesque wax mannequins are inspirations for his meanderings and musings. He plays no instruments and sings no songs. With no real value many wonder what his purpose is in the band at all. He swims through the sea of life carefree and purposeless, like a porpoise preoccupied with the perception of the plankton. His feet have grown feet. His hands have grown hands. He is not a boy. He is not a man. Simply a vagabond bohemian vexed by Bollywood videographers bathing violently beneath voices bellowing vernacular best voided before victory baffles victim based buffoons.
